Congratulations to Kyle Latty on a Successful Dissertation Defense

The Optical Science and Nonproliferation Group at the University of Florida is proud to announce that Kyle S. Latty has successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation, titled “Atmospheric Radiation Plume Tracking Using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy and Laser Filamentation.” Kyle’s research addresses critical challenges in detecting and analyzing radiation plumes, leveraging advanced techniques such as aerosol-LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) and laser filamentation. His work contributes valuable insights into the field, aligning with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s (DTRA) IIRM URA mission. During his time in the OSN group at UF, Kyle has published seven peer-reviewed journal articles and given over a dozen conference presentations wining numerous society and conference awards for his superior research and exceptional skills.

Kyle’s dedication and expertise have not only enhanced our understanding of radiation plume tracking but have also prepared him for an impactful career in national security. Starting in January 2025, Kyle will join DTRA in a full-time role, where he will continue advancing research that supports national defense and security.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Kyle for his outstanding achievement and look forward to his continued contributions in this crucial area. His success exemplifies the mission of our group to push the boundaries of optical science in service of national security.

Congratulations, Dr. Kyle S. Latty!
